Eleanor (Leighton Meester, Gossip Girl) is a young musician going through the pains of growing up, who is having problems with her boyfriend and was recently fired from her job. This third collaboration between de Heer and actor David Gulpilil extends the directors commitment to exploring Australian Aboriginal culture. “It’s the most affecting depiction of contemporary Aboriginal experience since Sampson & Delilah” (The Hollywood Reporter).  Actor and Screenwriter David Gulpilil took home the Un Certain Regard award for Best Actor at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. The wife of a village’s poorest family, Medine, wishes to make her mark in the community by putting on a feast for the circumcision of her 5-year old son. Guests get more than they bargained for when they hear that have become cannibals upon eating what was served for dinner. After fleeing the village only to return years later daily life looks normal. TIMBUKTU

The film takes place during the Jihadist take over in 2012. Recounting events influenced by a public stoning of an unmarried couple. Selected to compete for the Palm d ’Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes it won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the Francois Chalais Prize. Cast: Pino Desperado, Abel Jafri, Toulou Kiki, Ketty Noel and Hichem Yacoubi.

MVFF37 TO HOST THE SHARP ART OF AMAZING 4K FILM SHOWCASE

 

Joining forces with fellow leaders in high definition technology RED and THX, Sharp is seeking short 4K films
(10 minute maximum) that capture the full potential of an amazing high resolution entertainment experience. Hidden details, vibrant colors, captivating compositions that are only unlocked by 4K. Submissions can be
abstract, narrative, technical, or genre bending and should showcase beauty and emotion in unique perspectives.
Films will be judged on creativity, technical quality, and the ability to capture detailed, vivid scenes showcasing
all of the benefits that high resolution offers.

All films submitted will be considered for screening at the MVFF37 Sharp Art of the Amazing 4K Film Showcase.
We are thrilled to be able to celebrate independent artists and provide them a venue for high resolution
exhibition.

AWARD-WINNING FILM 'OH BOY' WILL REPLACE 'EFFIE GRAY'

We are excited to announce the special premiere of the film, OH BOY. This first feature by Jan Ole Gerster has been racking up awards and buzz on the festival circuit, and we are thrilled to announce that Jan Ole will be able to join us at MVFF on Saturday, October 12, 2013!

This tragicomedy is a self-ironic portrait of a young man  who drops out of university and ends up wandering the  streets of the city in which he lives: Berlin. The film deals with the  desire to participate in life and the difficulty to find one's  place.
