The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA LA) was founded in 1987 to promote and advance original work within the industries of the moving image. BAFTA LA serves as the bridge between Hollywood and British production and entertainment business communities, providing exclusive access to screenings and Q&As with creative talent, as well as seminars with leading UK film and television executives. Membership of BAFTA LA is exclusive, limited to the top professionals working in film, television and interactive media, and it automatically conveys membership in BAFTA headquartered in London with HRH Prince William as its President.

For ten years, this prestigious organization has awarded the BAFTA LA Prize to the best short film at the Mill Valley Film Festival. In addition, two runners-up are recognized with a Certificate of Excellence. This year's prizes will be awarded on Closing Night by British Consul General Priya Guha, and announced here on mvff.com, as well as in the press following the festival.
